A distinguished example of the Yamagata regional tradition, this vintage kokeshi is attributed to Seitaro Kobayashi, a name associated with one of Tohoku's most respected kokeshi lineages. Yamagata-style dolls are instantly recognizable by their delicate red linework patterns on top of the head — a decorative signature unique to this regional school.
At 12.5" tall, this is a substantial piece with real presence. The paint smearing at the base and the small crack on the head are honest signs of age — marks that collectors of authentic folk art understand and appreciate.
